In this course students are introduced to the concept development process and its key challenges. We are focusing on idea identification, analysis, and impact evaluation with the aim of giving students the needed knowledge to plan and start an entrepreneurial venture whether it is a new festival, band project, recording, publishing or other type of creative endeavour. The key component is the idea process. Students will go through idea processes in groups to create and evaluate actual ideas in terms of business potential, feasibility, viability, and the UN sustainability goals.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course, the student should:
- have advanced knowledge about theories related to opportunity recognition
- have thorough knowledge about available frameworks for opportunity recognition and concept development
- be able to analyse and critically evaluate existing theories and frameworks
- be able to carry out a concept development project, including concept development and testing
- be able to analyse an idea’s potential
- be able to run and manage idea search and opportunity analysis processes in various industries and sectors
Examination requirements
- Compulsory attendance in the lectures.
- Delivery and approval of portfolio including the "idea processes"

Teaching methods
Lectures, workshops, teamwork, projects, and presentations.
Parts of the lessons are mandatory. These parts are communicated at the beginning of the semester through Canvas. The expected workload for students is 27 hours per credit.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
