Course contents

Supervision is an essential part of the work with the Master Thesis. This will secure that the student will have the information needed and implies a necessary quality assurance with regard to collecting and processing data, and also secures that the work is according to ethical guidelines for research. Consequently supervision is a compulsory part of this study programme for the students who wish to hand in a Master Thesis.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, students will:

  • be able to document sufficient knowledge with regard to collecting and processing data related to the phenomenon of sports science in the Master's thesis. Students will also be able to document sufficient knowledge of quality assurance regarding this topic.

  • be able to document insight into and understanding of the theoretical rational and the methodology used in the thesis

  • be able to explain methodical challenges and scientific theoretical problems for discussion related to the sport scientific research they have carried out

Examination requirements

All previous courses must be passed before the master's thesis may be handed in.

Teaching methods

Individual supervision. Compulsory attendance to at least ten tutorials. The students will have tutorials as specified in a contract.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in consultation with the student representative, the method of evaluation and whether the course will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

The Master Thesis and the oral examination will be graded. The student will first receive a mark for the thesis. This can be adjusted by one mark after the oral examination related to the thesis. At the beginning of the oral examination the student will give a presentation of the Master Thesis. Then there will be a discussion about the thesis, for example strong and weak aspects of the present work. One hour is estimated; 20-30 minutes presentation and 30-40 minutes discussion.
