Course contents

Guidance on the use of library and database services, and best practice in using and referring to the work of others.

 

A seminar on some central topics in the theory of science, with emphasis on

observation and knowledge

  • hypothetical-deductive method

  • the criterion of falsification

  • the demarcation problem

  • research programmes

  • paradigm shifts

  • science as power structure

 

Oral presentation of a concept for the bachelor thesis.

 

Individual supervision of bachelor thesis work.

 

 

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the module, the student will have acquired skills in

  • use of the library and electronic databases to navigate the research literature

  • exploring a topic of relevance to the degree course and relating it to current theory of science

  • presenting scientific material orally and in writing

Teaching methods

Seminar, oral presentation, and supervised project work. The course has an expected workload of around 200 hours.

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Individual written bachelor thesis. Graded assessment.
