Course contents

The course gives the students theoretical and practical knowledge on how to teach course-related content through various media and to a set of different target audiences. The course provides the student with understanding and experience on how the teaching of visual art can be implemented in the workplace. The course is divided into a theoretical part, a practice-placement part and an assignment part. The theoretical partwill look at art-didactic strategies, as well as organization theory relevant to organisations and professional life in the culture field. During the practice-placement period, the students will be placed in an organization or business for a total of two weeks. The students will participate in the tasks taking place at that business.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the students shall

  • have knowledge of and be able to use various art-didactic strategies related to visual art.

  • be able to reflect on their art-didactical practices and its relevance in professional life.

  • have knowledge of what characterizes the professional life, the vision of art education, routines and tasks related to the relevant practice partner.

  • be able to reflect on the relationship between practice, , the student's area of study, and course knowledge.

  • have knowledge of theories related to adding value to and building cultural activities in work life.

  • be able to plan and implement a varied set of tasks according to ethical requirements and guidelines.

Examination requirements

  • Approved presence for mandatory lectures and practice-placement.

  • Approved assignment and oral presentation.

Teaching methods

The course consists of lectures, seminars, self-study, observation and practice-placement. As part of the placement period, observing the routines and tasks related to the business the student will be placed in will become part of the course. The placement will be evaluated by both the lecturer and a supervisor from the relevant practice-partner.

In the last part of the course, the students will write an assignment where the focus is on the relationship between relevant theory and practice.

Expected workload is 27 hours per credit.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Individual three-day home examination with a scope of 2000 words.
