Course contents

The digitalisation of society and business leads to an increasing need for private and public enterprises to renew themselves regularly. New requirements for products and services, as well as greater emphasis on sustainability goals, make adaptability increasingly important.

The course consists of the following:

  • digital transformation of organizations

  • analysis of several cases with digital transformation in several industries

  • digital transformation and sustainability

  • The importance of IT and dynamic skills for the creations of new strategies and change processes in organizations

  • customer orientation as a basis for digitalization

  • management concepts focusing on continuous change for sustainable competitiveness

  • Enterprise Architecture

  • IT-based tools for modelling business processes

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will understand how to proceed to create digital transformation in organizations. Furthermore, they will understand IT as a catalyst for organizational change, and they will be able to apply business process management to create the change capability. Further, they will know the change processes that the technology requires or enables. The students will know how to plan, manage and implement change processes.

Knowledge and skills:

  • be able to plan digital transformation in organizations

  • understand how digital technology enables new strategies, restructuring and improvements of work processes in organizations

  • understand the role process orientation plays in creating digital transformation in organizations

  • know various traditions, theories and practices for business process management in organizations

  • have the ability to model, analyze and create to-be objectives for business processes using leading tools.

Examination requirements

Compulsory assignments must be approved before being allowed to sit for a written exam.

Teaching methods

The teaching is organized in the form of 6 hours of lecture and group work per week. Compulsory attendance is required in parts of the teaching, which will be announced at the start of the semester. The standard workload for 10 ECTS is 13 hours per week. Expected working hours are 270 hours

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

The course uses a two-part evaluation form.

One or more project assignments count 40% of the final grade. A 3 hour written exam under supervision counts 60% of final grade. Both parts must be passed in order to obtain an overall grade. The grade is indicated by letter grades from A-F. Additional information will ble published in Canvas.
