Based onthe first five semesters of the bachelor's programme in IT and information systems or equivalent. The course assumes that the students have a minimum of120 credits.
Course contents
The main purpose of the bachelor thesis is to give students the opportunity to test acquired knowledge and skills by immersing themselves in a project related to an information system in a real setting. Students will have the opportunity to plan, estimate, perform, test, follow up and document the project. The development is done by a student group that is given the opportunity to work with quality in process and product, using methods and techniques that promote these elements. Students should also look at the gains/effects of the work, and be able to plan and possibly take measures in order for the value to happen.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
-
carry out an IT/IS-related project using established methods and techniques, including the following elements: plan, estimate, perform, test, follow up and document the project
-
define quality in the actual project and implement quality assurance actions
-
control progress and quality throughout the project, with focus on delivering value to the client
-
assess the opportunities and risks associated with creating value from the project/product
-
Work with user participation, before and during work with the product, as well as be able to evaluate the effects of the product, and suggest actions to adapt the product or its intended use and value.
Examination requirements

Teaching methods
The course is project-based. The project shall result in some form of product, this can be part of an information system, a recommendation, the result of a survey.....
There will be lectures and collections where subject matter and projects will be presented and discussed.
The university receives requests for projects from external actors. Students can also have projects in companies they find themselves.. How the distribution of projects is agreed with the students semester before the course is run. The projects must be approved by the course manager before the actual project work starts. The project work is carried out under supervision, and periodic progress reporting is mandatory. The estimated scope of work is 810 hours per student.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.
Assessment methods and criteria
Individually graded grade, letter grade A-F. The evaluation basis for grades is a project report and an application (product) performed in teams, as well as an oral final examination with presentation and demonstration of the application (product), where individual grades are set.
