Recommended prerequisites

Instruction is a continuation of courses in the first year of the Bachelor programme in IT and information systems.

Course contents

Introduction to and application of basic models, concepts, problems, and tasks in analysis and design of information systems development.

The students, working in groups, will produce a report of their analysis and design activities in developing an information system.

Through coordination of activities between IS 200, IS-201, and IS-202 the students will learn and experience how their analysis and design can be implemented.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to:

  • explain basic models and concepts in analysis and design of information systems

  • describe and discuss challenges related to systems analysis

  • use techniques for analysis and design

  • understand how information systems interact and integrate with the organisation

  • produce documentation related to the systems development process

  • be aware of ethical challenges in systems development

Examination requirements

Approved mandatory assignments and class participation. Information will be given in Canvas at semester start.

Teaching methods

Learning is organized through:

  • Lectures

  • Analysis and design activities in groups

  • Supervision

  • Project report writing

  • Work in groups analysing and designing an information system

IS-200 will be coordinated with IS-201 and IS-202, so students are encouraged to take all three.

Note that standard workload for 10 ECTS is 13 hours per week per student.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Group portfolio evaluation. Graded grade A-F.
