Course contents

The course is composed of a series of lectures on different topics. The actual topics may change from year to year. The following is a set of possible lectures. There will be guest lectures from industry, research institutions, etc.

Possible topics:

- Security hardening (Linux oriented)
- Hardware near security
- Android platform security
- Digital Forensics
- Biometrics
- Ekom CERT
- Annual open threat reports from Norwegian authorities (NSM, PST og E-tjenesten)
- The Norwegian Cyber Security Culture (report by NORSIS)
- Critical infrastructure protection
- Advanced Access Control Schemes

Learning outcomes

After having passed the course, the students should

- have a good overview over the selected security topics
- be able to understand new and complex security topics
- have a broad understanding of complex security topics
- have in-depth understanding of a selected topic

Examination requirements

Compulsory assignments and presentations must be approved. Information about compulsory assignments will be given in Canvas at the start of the course.

Teaching methods

This course consists of a series of guest lectures and exercises. In addition, there will be project work done in groups. There will be a presentation of the project.

The total expected workload for the average student is approximately 210 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Admission Requirement if given as Single Standing Module

Admission requirements for the course are the same as for the master’s programme in Cyber Security, or the master’s programme in ICT.

Assessment methods and criteria

A project report that counts 80 % and a presentation that counts 20 %. Details on the content of the project will be given in Canvas at the start of the semester. Individual, graded assessment.
