Course contents

The students will gain valuable and relevant work experience through internship in a company. The working days of internship will be chosen to fit the schedule for the other courses of the semester.

In cooperation with the department, the students should find a company suited for internship. The student applies for internship on basis of CV and application. The company will perform interviews to evaluate the candidates.

During the period of practical training, the student is supposed to take an active part in ICT-related tasks in the company. The student should have a contact person in the company, and a contact person at the university. There will be a contract between the student, UoA and the company. This contract will regulate relations regarding the period of practical training and the distribution of responsibility between the three parties.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:

Knowledge:
- describe the corporate culture and the roles of the different colleagues in the company.
- make a general description of the work tasks and practices in the company, especially the tasks that were most important in the period of practical training.

Skills:

- present him-/herself to a potential employer through application, CV and interview.
- reflect on his/her own workmanship especially related to the tasks that were most important in the period of the internship.
- reflect on his/her role in cooperation with other colleagues.

General competence:
-communicate and cooperate with others to solve specific tasks.
- relate and adapt to different demands in working life.

Teaching methods

Individual practice in working life. The workload is estimated to about 270 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

Portfolio assessment. The portfolio consists of the following:
- Application and CV
- Logbook / diary
- A midway status report
- A report after ended practical work period
- At least 180 working hours documented by time sheets signed by the contact person in the work place

- Video of oral presentation.

Pass / fail. More detailed information about the portfolio will be given in Canvas at the start of the course.

The application for the course must be delivered within the deadline the semester before the course is to be taken.
