The student must have passed a minimum of 60 credits in physical education

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student will:

Knowledge

  • Have thorough knowledge of the development of children and adolescents in a socio-ecological perspective

  • Be able to analyze social growing up conditions related to the development of children and adolescents

  • Be able to assess and analyze different premises for the pupils seen in the light of physical education and movement activity

  • Have thorough knowledge of - and be able to apply central theories and perspectives related to learning and teaching in physical education

  • Have thorough knowledge of various aspects of the teacher role in physical education and be able to critically reflect upon various aspects of this role

  • Have thorough knowledge of how physical education may be used to develop a good learning environment at school and in leisure time

Skills:

  • Be able to analyze and understand individual ¿ and group processes and be able to influence these processes.

  • Be able to demonstrate how various pupil ¿ and environmental conditions may influence learning and development

  • Be able to systematically and critically evaluate own performance as a teacher

Examination requirements

Compulsory attendance at the 3-day course sessions.

Passed practical studies or didactical assignment.

Teaching methods

The teaching will comprise approximately 45 lessons. The lessons will be given in the form of lectures and dialogue-based teaching and supervision. The teaching will be based on course sessions (two sessions of three days each ¿ with seven lessons a day). Compulsory attendance.

For students transferred after three years in Teacher Education three weeks of practice will be arranged. 15 days of practice are required for Teacher Education students. Other students will do a didactical piece of work of an equivalent volume, which must be passed.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

The examination consists of the following two parts:

  1. At the end of the course the students will write an individual, drawn assignment (essay) as a 5-day home examination. The essay should be 3500 words (+/- 10 %) (1,5 line spacing) + reading list. The assignment will be graded and counts 40% of the final grade.

  2. Individual oral examination (duration 40 minutes) which will be graded and counts 60% of the final grade.
