Prerequisites
45 ECTS credits in English. EN-160 (part 1) and EN-162 (Part 2) or the equivalent must be successfully completed.
Course contents
The purpose of the course is to introduce students to a variety of writing linked to a specific time period or movement. This can include both critical texts and creative works of literature, as well as a variety of literary genres. The course will investigate a selection of important texts of the time period or movement, scrutinizing both common denominators and differences. Critical reflection on how a canonized version of the time period or movement is formed, is also part of the course.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:

discuss the work of important writers of the relevant time period or movement.

compare/contrast textual and rhetorical strategies of these writers.

understand key concepts linked to the time period or movement.

have knowledge of key cultural and historical events and developments linked to the time period or movement.

discuss theoretical premises underlying the construction of literary history and the selection of a literary canon.
Upon completion of this course students will be able to

account for essential features of the literature of the time period or movement.

critically evaluate primary and other relevant texts relating to the literary time period or movement and its cultural-historical context.

write independent texts based on critical use of sources in line with relevant academic practices.
Examination requirements
An obligatory essay (2000 words) and obligatory oral presentation must be assessed as a Pass. 70% compulsory attendance of classes.
Teaching methods
Lectures and seminars. The workload is estimated at 270 hours.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.
