The course is connected to the following study programs

  • Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Bachelor's Programme

Teaching language

English and Norwegian

Recommended prerequisites

MA-169 Mathematics 1 - Electrical Engineering (Complex Numbers) and MA-170 Mathematics 2 - Electrical Engineering (Fourier series).

Course contents

Signals in the time and frequency domains. Sampling and quantization. Fourier and Z-transformation. Transfer functions. Convolution and correlation. Digital filters. Multi-Rate DSP. Simple image processing. Random signals.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the students:
- Have knowledge of the digitization of analog signals, digital filters, convolution and correlation, Fourier and z-transformation, the basic properties of random signals.

- Are able to develop mathematical models of simple signal processing systems.

- Can use LabView to create simple signal processing applications including AD-DA, digital filters, DFT routines and simple image processing.

Examination requirements

Students must pass the compulsory assignments in order to take the examination. An overview of the compulsory assignments will be given in Canvas at the start of the semester.

Teaching methods

Lectures, theoretical exercises and lab. exercises. The exercises conducted in the electrical lab on specially designed equipment and performed under the supervision of an engineer, student assistant and / or teacher in groups of max 3 students. Necessary training in the use of subject related software and hardware will be given. Classes are divided into groups of appropriate size so that all students should have access to necessary equipment and the support they need to solve the tasks.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written examination, 4 hours. Graded assessment.
