Course contents

Electric sizes and units. Circuit elements, laws and mathematical methods for direct current and alternating current in linear circuits. Phasor diagram, impedance, and admittance. Principles for the transport of electrical energy. Simple symmetrical three-phase systems.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the students should:

- Have a basic understanding of linear electrical circuits with passive components

- Be able to perform theoretical analysis of linear electrical circuits with passive components

- Know how to use electronic measuring instruments

- Have knowledge of elementary measurements technique

- Be able to communicate academic knowledge in writing and orally

- Be able to participate in professional discussions in elementary electronics and share their experiences with others

Examination requirements

The compulsory theory and laboratory assignments must be approved in order to take the examination. Information about the compulsory assignments will be given in Canvas at the start of the semester.

Teaching methods

Lectures, theory exercises and laboratory exercises. The laboratory exercises include the use of digital tools and laboratory instruments and take place in the electronics laboratory under the guidance of a teacher, laboratory staff and / or student assistants. The class is divided into groups of appropriate size so that all students have access to the necessary equipment and the help they need to solve the tasks. Laboratory exercises take place in small groups, and approval of assignments takes place through demonstration and oral explanation in the laboratory.

Expected workload for the average student: 135 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

4 hours individual written examination. Graded assessment.
