Course contents

The subject is centred on necessary techniques for presenting a message through a video production. Preparing, manuscript authoring, storyboard, shot angles, picture composition, lighting, audio recording and more. The structure and functionalities of professional video cameras. Professional video editing. Digital video with parameters, standards, codecs, screen recording, current hardware for video, colour models, streaming and compression will be discussed theoretically and in practical lab assignments. Journalistic principles. Software for combining video with other types of graphics.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the students should:

- Be able to create a video production with good quality in regard to both content and the technical aspects of the video.

- Be aware of different categories of content and what distinguishes them.

- Master professional video equipment and know the structure of this type of equipment.

- Be able to use a professional video-editing tool.

- Be able to edit for deliverance to different video formats, have control of their various parameters, and be able to transfer between different delivery formats.

- Be able to reproduce the principles for sampling of video, different standards for representation of video, colour models for video and compression techniques for video, with emphasis on MPEG.

- Master software for screen recording and subtitling of video.

Examination requirements

- Students must pass compulsory assignments in order to take the examination.
- Compulsory participation in lectures of 80%.

Lectures (compulsory participation of 80%) and practical lab assignments (in periods). Compulsory assignments (in teams).

Expected student workload is approximately 270 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral examination, 3 hours, in the first semester contributes to 50% to the final grade. Project work that is normally carried out in groups in the second semester, contributes 50% to the final grade. The groups are given joint grades. Graded assessment.
