Recommended prerequisites
The student should be somewhat familiar with professional graphic software.
Course contents
Art and design history with emphasis on the last 150 years. Mainly painting, graphic design and photography. Graphic design in practice. Vector graphic software.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the candidate should posess the following skills:

Create graphic designs with a conscious expression and a coherent relationship between picture and text.

Give products of various natures a visual identity.

Give a record of western art and design history, including photography, from the 1850-ties to the present.

Be able to place typical pictorial art in time and style.

Be able to a certain degree assess graphic design, art and photography with a critical eye.
Teaching methods
Lectures (traditional and digital) and laboratory exercises. Mandatory assignments, individual and in groups.
Expected student workload is approximately 270 hours.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria
Portfolio assessment. Information about the content of the portfolio will be given in the LMS at the start of the semester. Pass / fail.
