Course contents
Advanced high strength steel and aluminum in load bearing structures. Alloy composition, mechanical properties and strength. Advanced mechanical testing. Durability against fatigue and corrosion. Surface finish and treatment. Selection of materials for design of large buildings. Highway pavement materials with characteristic resistance and durability against cracking and wear. Design principles and characteristic behavior of composite materials. Selection of materials for water systems. Materials for climatic buffers and important characteristics including sustainability. Material testing and acceptability for quality assurance
Learning outcomes
After the course is completed the candidates shall have good overview of materials applied in civil engineering. They shall also have gained knowledge on some current research topics and research methodologies in the field.
