Course contents

The course gives an introduction to the recent history of religion in Norway. It provides an overview of the development from a unitary Christian society to a society characterized by Christian pluralism up till today's pluralism of religion and world views. Central questions are: How have practice and theory changed, and what characterizes the theories, ideologies and practice of religions today? The course emphasizes three central periods: The age of enlightenment and pietism, the modern breakthrough, and today.

Upon completion of the course the students shall

Knowledge

  • Have broad knowledge about the history of Christianity in Norway

  • Have knowledge about diversity in Christian theory and practice

  • Have knowledge about today¿s pluralism of religion and world views

Skills

  • Be able to reflect on how religion has influenced Norwegian culture and society up till today

  • Be able to evaluate and compare various interpretations of the history of religion

  • Be able to reflect on different religious aesthetic expressions

 

General competence

  • Be able to communicate central topics from Norwegian history of religion

  • Be able to apply knowledge of the history of religion to interpret religion and world views in today's society

Examination requirements

For discipline students: Preliminary test must be passed. Further information will be posted on Fronter.
For students in the master's programme in the teacher education: Practice must be passed.
