Course contents

Course includes:

  • work with a broad repertoire for performance as soloist and with ensembles

  • work with solo and ensemble repertoire, with performance practice and questions of interpretation, both with and without accompanist

  • work with adjusting to different performance contexts as solo and ensemble musician

  • work with practice routines, prevention of strain injuries and application of relevant technical practice material

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students shall:

  • have acquired a wide repertoire

  • be able to display artistic expression and creativity in their own performances

  • be able to display insight into traditions and performance practice within central historical periods for the instrument

  • be able to adjust to different performance contexts as solo and ensemble musician

Examination requirements

  • Approved solo performance at minimum 2 concerts hosted by UiA.

  • Approved ensemble performance at minimum 1 concert hosted by UiA.

  • Approved compulsory lesson attendance

Teaching methods

The course is conducted through individual lessons and group lessons. During the course, the student will participate in different projects and seminars. Each student will receive individual lessons on their main instrument, in addition to ensemble lessons. There will be room for flexible organisation regarding various projects. Attending the lessons is compulsory.
Expected workload for an average student is 27 hours per credit.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Individual performance test with technical and/or interpretive tasks decided by the teacher. Duration: ca 20 mins.
