Course contents

The course is both theoretical and practice-based, and concerns how students are able to establish their own ideas of musical presentation in society through cultural institutions and public prioritising of music, as well as through their own enterprise. The course includes concert dramaturgy and presentation, as well as knowledge of market and cultural politics. The aim is to be able to develop projects that both serve a function for the participants and are worthy of endorsement.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students shall:

  • be able to produce music presentational projects, from the start of the project application process through to completion

  • have knowledge of cultural political conditions as well as different ideological approaches to music

  • be able to make a market and business plan, taking as its point of departure the students own musical, artistic or presentational ideas

  • have knowledge of the creative music making and its role in contemporary society

  • have knowledge of trends, societal demands and markets within the music and arts field a

Examination requirements

Recognized compulsory attendance for the lessons, workshops and ensemble projects.

Teaching methods

The course is conducted through lectures, seminars, workshops and practice-based projects. Supervision is provided both individually and in groups.
Expected workload for an average student is 27 hours per credit

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

One written and audiovisual individual home exam. Duration: 2 months. More information will be provided through Canvas at the start of the semester.
Assessment: Grade A-F
