Formulation of problems within time domain simulation including state variables, initialization, time integration, and setting up linear and non-linear algebraic equations in combination with differential equations. Modeling of electrical circuits and motors (DC/AC). Modeling of hydraulic systems and transmission lines. Simulation of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional mechanical systems with hydraulic or electrical actuation. Numerical methods for solving linear and non-linear sets of equations, optimization, and parameter identification.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to

Set up mathematical models of multidisciplinary systems and implement these models special purpose programs (fx. MATLAB) or in commercially available simulation packages (fx. SimulationX).

Use the simulation models as a design tool to evaluate functionality, stability, and performance.

Combine different disciplines (electronics, hydraulics, control theory, and mechanics) in the simulation models
Teaching methods
Lectures, exercises and laboratory work including project work that can be carried out individually or in groups of 2 - 3 students. Estimated work load for the average student is approximately 200 hours.
Evaluation
Course evaluation is carried out as a midterm evaluation in accordance with standard procedure in the quality assurance system, chapter 2.1.1., unless other information is given in the beginning of the semester.
Assessment methods and criteria
Individual computer based exam, 4 hours (60% contribution to the final assessment), and project report with compulsory presentation (40% contribution to the final assessment). Graded assessment.
