Course contents
The course conveys interdisciplinary insight into different theories and methods of research in the arts, and focuses on theoretical research questions with regards to different kinds of artistic research. Students will gain knowledge of different academic theory traditions, their specific terminologies, research methods and methods of analysis and writing. These will be utilised in relation to various artistic works, and with particular focus on contemporary art, their scope and limitations will both be tested, as well as the opportunity to connect them, both within and across different art disciplines. Operationalisation of these theories and methods for written research and development of methodological tools is central, as is the application of theories and methods in an ethically and scientifically sound manner. The course emphasises giving students the theoretical and methodological tools needed to be able to carry out a master's thesis in the form of an art research project. The course will also lay the foundation for the students' design of and reflection on art-related dissemination projects and artistic development.
