Course contents

  • The building blocks of a program: Variables, constants, functions, parameters, tables, if/else-structures, loops, operators, etc.

  • Simple algorithms and data structures.

  • Basic structured programming.

  • Simple graphics.

  • Finding and correcting errors.

  • Assessing efficiency.

Learning outcomes

The student is able to

  • develop and write structured computer programs for solving problems from economics, mathematics and sciences

  • define and describe the use of the most important building blocks in a program

  • develop and write computer programs for producing graphical illustrations

  • interpret programs

  • find and correct bugs in programs

  • assess the efficiency of programs

Teaching methods

Lectures, work on computers and compulsory assignments. The course has an expected workload of around 200 hours

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

A 5-hour written examination.
