Recommended prerequisites

ELE115-G Design of digital electronics, ELE216-G2 Analog electronics, and ELE220-G Microcontrollers and control systems, or the equivalent.

Course contents

Practical and theoretical knowledge of project management, risk assessment and implementation of an electronics project. The students will themselves be able to influence the content and direction of the project, but it should contain some self-developed electronics (hardware - analog and/or digital). The project will normally be based upon an integration of microcontrollers and analog/ digital components, preferably in the form of an embedded control system with sensors and/or actuators. It is also desirable that the project includes one or more of the following elements: wireless data communication, digital signal processing, programmable logic (FPGA), power supply and simple PCB design. The subject teachers will present project proposals at the start of the course. In some cases, the subject teachers may approve student-defined projects.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student should

• have knowledge of project management and risk assessment of electronics projects

• be able to plan and carry out an electronics project

• be able to design according to a specification, implement a design, simulate, test and verify the product and document the work and its results

• be able to communicate subject-related matter in writing and orally and participate in academic discussions

Examination requirements

Delivered preliminary study report. Participation in two compulsory guidance meetings.

Teaching methods

Independent work on project assignment in groups, facilitated with compulsory supervision. Some lectures on selected topics.

Expected workload for the average student: 200 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Admission Requirement if given as Single Standing Module

Higher Education Entrance Qualification including mathematics R1 and R2 and physics Fysikk 1, or a pass in the preliminary course examination for engineers (which is also offered at University of Agder).

Assessment methods and criteria

Project report from the project that is carried out in groups and adjusting oral examination. The students are required to hand in a declaration of the division of labour within the group, and individual time sheets together with the report. This is the basis for the individual assessment. Graded, individual assessment.
