Recommended prerequisites

ELE115-G Design of digital electronics

Course contents

Development tool for using programmable logic. Hardware description using high-level language. Synchronous systems. State machines. Development of circuit systems for serial communication.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student should:

- be able to design sequential digital circuit systems in programmable logic

- be able to perform analysis and synthesis of digital electronic systems

- be able to use tools for developing digital systems in programmable logic

- be able to realize digital systems in programmable logic circuits using high-level languages

- be able to simulate, test and verify the functionality of digital systems realized in programmable logic

- be able to plan and carry out design tasks alone or with others

Examination requirements

The compulsory exercises must be approved in order to take the examination. Information about the compulsory assignments will be given in Canvas at the start of the semester.

Teaching methods

Lectures, theory exercises and laboratory assignments. Lab tasks are compulsory. Training is provided in the use of subject-related software and hardware. The students develop their own electronic circuit solutions and realize these in an FPGA to solve the lab tasks.

Expected scope of work for the average student: 135 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Offered as Single Standing Module

Yes. Subject to availability or capacity.

Admission Requirement if given as Single Standing Module

Higher Education Entrance Qualification including mathematics R1 and R2 and physics Fysikk 1, or a pass in the preliminary course examination for engineers (which is also offered at University of Agder).

Assessment methods and criteria

4 hours individual written examination. Graded assessment.
