The student must be a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Engineering and Science or at a similar institution

Course contents

The candidate is free to suggest a body of literature within a research topic of interest and relevant to the PhD-project.

 

Learning outcomes

This course is designed to provide candidates with in-depth knowledge and understanding within a research topic in a field relevant to the candidates PhD-project.

After completing the course, the student is expected to:

  • have good knowledge about the state of the art within the selected topic

  • be able to discuss and argue using the concepts of the topic

  • understand the connection of the topic with related state-of-the-art topics

  • have in-depth understanding of applications related to this topic

  • apply the understanding of the topic to a research theme related to the students own specialization area

  • be able to collect more relevant information in the selected topic

 

 

Examination requirements

The content of the course must be approved by the PhD program committee for natural sciences, PECNAT at the Department of Natural Sciences.

Teaching methods

 

Self-study with a workload of minimum 150 pages from relevant peer reviewed journals and/or relevant book chapters. (References not included.)

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral examination attending an appointed sensors and the supervisors. Pass (A, B) / fail
