Course contents
Course includes:

continued development of style and genre understanding, as well as knowledge of repertoire connected to accumulating and developing one’s own repertoire

work with their insight into different practical working contexts

work with ensembles, playing-by-ear and improvisation

work with relevant practice methods and develop own practice routines
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students shall:

have developed a broad repertoire, and acquired knowledge about different styles, genres and historical periods

be able to adjust to different working contexts within life as a professional musician

be able to display skills in ensembles, playing-by-ear and improvisation
-
acquire knowledge about rehearsal methods and have developed purposeful practice routines within their main areas

Approved participation on minimum 1 concert per main area, hosted by UiA

Teaching methods
The course is conducted through individual lessons and group lessons. During the course, the student will participate in different projects and seminars. Each student will receive tuition in both disciplines (individually and in ensemble). The tuition resources will be allocated 70/30 in favor of the students main discipline. There will be room for flexible organisation regarding various projects. Attending the lessons is compulsory.
Expected workload for an average student is 27 hours per credit.
Evaluation
The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria
Part 1: Main area 1 will be conducted as a 15 minute practical test either individually or in groups. The test should reflect the work done within the selected classical main instrument discipline, and is scheduled together with a teacher.
Part 2: Main area 2 will be conducted as a 10 minute practical test either individually or in groups. The test should reflect the work done within the selected secondary discipline, and is scheduled together with a teacher.
Assessment: Pass/fail
