Recommended prerequisites
MA-178 Mathematics 1 and MA-179 Mathematics 2, or equivalent.
Course contents
Vectors, lines and planes in three dimensions. Multivariate integrals with applications. Fourier series including application for solving partial differential equations.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course, the student should be able to

set up equations for planes, and to find their surface normal vector

set up multivariate integrals, and apply them to calculations of volume, center of mass and moments of inertia

find Fourier series of periodic functions

solve partial differential equations like the heat equation and the wave equation by means of Fourier series
Examination requirements
Enough approved mandatory exercises. Information about mandatory assignments will be given in Canvas at the start of the semester.

Lectures, tutorial groups for exercises, mandatory assignments. Information on exercises will be given in Canvas.
Assessment methods and criteria
Individual written exam, 3 hours. Graded A-F.
