Eurocode 0

Eurocode 1 - load calculations

Dimensioning of steel elements for different loads and load combinations (pressure, tension, cutting and torque)

Stability of steel structures

Calculation and dimensioning of nodes in steel (bolt, weld)
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student should:

Understand how different types of construction work (truss, frame plate, etc.).

Be able to explain and convey the Eurocode standards in general.

Be able to explain and convey the advantages and disadvantages of using steel in structures.

Be able to design all the relevant types of construction of steel.

Understand stability problems - in general

Be able to read drawings of steel constructions

Be able to calculate load and load combinations according to Eurcode 0 and 1.

Be able to design structures and joints in steel according to Eurocode 3.

Have a good understanding of building structures.

Have knowledge to consider when steel is a better choice as building material than other building materials
Examination requirements
Students must pass the compulsory assignments in order to take the examination.

Evaluation
The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Admission Requirement if given as Single Standing Module
Higher Education Entrance Qualification including mathematics R1 and R2 and physics 1, or a pass in the preliminary course examination for engineers (which is also offered at University of Agder).
Assessment methods and criteria
Individual 4 hours written exam. Graded assessment.
