  • quality of life, user perspective and violations

  • power and help

  • the social educator's history and professional role ethics

  • introduction to knowledge-based practice and research method

Learning outcomes

Students:

Knowledge

  • demonstrate knowledge of the social educator's role and function

  • demonstrate knowledge of interaction and collaboration

  • demonstrate knowledge of nursing as a profession, the subject area's history, traditions, uniqueness and place in society

  • demonstrate knowledge of the life situation of people with developmental disabilities in an individual and societal perspective

  • demonstrate knowledge of power, assistance, and violations

  • demonstrate knowledge of the relationship between functional impairment and disability

  • demonstrate knowledge of how to facilitate mastery

  • demonstrate broad knowledge of self-determination, autonomy and user participation

  • demonstrate knowledge of the relationship between qualitative and quantitative research methods

  • have knowledge of professional ethics guidelines

Skills

  • are able to apply professional knowledge to critically discuss their own work process

  • are able to reflect on professional nursing practice

Teaching methods

Teaching and learning methods include lectures, group work with supervision, presentations, point practice and self-study. Mandatory activities are described in more detail in the subject booklet on Canvas.

Expected scope of work in the course is 270 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Submission of a group assignment. Graded individual assessment.
