Learning outcomes

Part 1), Literature and history of literature:

By the end of the course, the students shall have acquired more advanced text analytical techniques for the analysis and interpretation of narrative, dramatic and lyrical texts than what is presented in the course TY-121, German literature, history and culture 1. In the text analysis, the students shall be able to apply the key terminology. The students shall be able to categorise the different texts and describe them related to their place in the history of literature and to their place in the cultural history. The students shall be familiar with the most important forms of text and cultural presentation.

Part 2) Oral German with cultural knowledge and history:

By the end of the course, the students shall have acquired practical skills in modern German, both receptive and productive. They shall be able to communicate in German in conversations and give oral presentations on recent German history and culture. Their skills in oral German shall also enable the students to work as teachers of German in the Norwegian school.

Examination requirements

One obligatory oral presentation must be assessed as a Pass.

For students in the master's programme for secondary education teachers, the following examination requirements apply: The supervised professional training is performed.

The oral presentation (see above) is not obligatory for students in the master's programme for secondary education teachers, but the students who wish, can participate and receive feedback, like the other students attending the course.

Teaching methods

Lectures, seminars and oral exercises. The language of instruction is German. Regular attendance to the teaching is recommended. The students are invited to hand in and receive comments on written assignments throughout the semester.

For students attending the master's programme for secondary education teachers, supervised professional training is included (altogether two weeks per semester).

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

1) Three portfolios containing analyses of a narrative text (4 pages), a dramatical text (4 pages) and a poem (1,5 pages) respectively. Graded assessment.

2) One oral examination (approx. 30 minutes). Graded assessment.

For the final grade, the grade in part 1) and part 2) each count 50 %.
