  • Introduction to practicing theatre nursing to appropriate patient groups in cooperation with a placement supervisor with increasingly independent responsibility

  • Clininal observation and assessment ability

  • Acure situations, trauma, planning of reception and reception itself

Learning outcomes

The student:

Knowledge

  • demonstrates in-depth knowledge of and is able to reflect on the operating nurse's duties, role, function and responsibilities on the new or current ward

  • demonstrates knowledge of one's own competence level and does not go beyond this and is able to reflect on one's own professional practice on the new or current ward

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge in most major themes and is able to apply the knowledge in the professional practice

  • demonstrates knowledge of and is able to safely use the most common technical equipment used on the relevant ward

  • demonstrates knowledge of and is able to properly use various documentation forms and medication administration and report the nursing performed independently

Skills

  • is able to use and disseminate knowledge in relation to observation, assessment, planning, measures and evaluation towards the acutely critically ill patient and perform comprehensive surgical nursing partially independently, but still in collaboration with practice counselor

  • is able to perform several sub-tasks independently in elective surgery

  • is able to carry out, plan, account for and manage their own work in elective surgery

  • is able to carry out the reception of surgical patients independently, and receive acute and labile patients in collaboration with the practice counselor

  • is able to analyze and relate critically to knowledge about infection prevention and apply hygienic principles

General competence

  • is able to apply their knowledge and skills to and reflect on ethical dilemmas in meeting the patient group together with the supervisor

  • is able to contribute to and participate in academic discussions in the department

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

The clinical studies are assessed as Pass/Fail. For the clinical studies to be assessed as Pass, the student must fulfill the attendance requirement (90%).

The student must have the following requirements approved:

  • Submitted two reflection notes

  • Participated in two reflection groups

  • Participated in practice theory days

The clinical studies are assessed at mid-term and final assessment periods. Please refer to the separate assessment form.
