The student:

Knowledge

  • is able to apply and reflect on advanced knowledge of intensive care nurse's duties, role, function and responsibilities in the relevant department

  • is able to use and analyze various forms of coping in the acute and / or critically ill patient and relatives

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge about the reception of critically ill and labile patients

  • is able to apply and analyze advanced knowledge of clinical and systematic observation, assessment, planning, measures and evaluation to the acutely critically ill patient

  • is able to apply advanced knowledge of drugs and drug administration in the intensive care unit

  • is able to apply advanced knowledge of the most common medical technical equipment used in the department

  • is able to can apply advanced knowledge of infection prevention and hygiene principles

  • is able to can apply and analyze knowledge of team communication

Skills

  • is able to analyze, assess and use observations to structure and formulate academic reasoning, and work on problem solving partially independently, but still in collaboration with practice counselor

  • is able to independently master observation of respiration, circulation and consciousness, assess and initiate measures in labile patients

  • is able to independently plan, account for and manage own work in lab patients effectively

  • is able to independently carry out tracing, written documentation and oral report in shift manager

  • is able to apply knowledge when administering current medications, and disseminate knowledge about the effect, side effect and dosage of the most common drugs used in the department independently

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

The clinical studies are assessed as Pass/Fail. For the clinical studies to be assessed as Pass, the student must fulfill the attendance requirement (90%).

The student must have the following requirements approved:

  • Submitted two reflection notes

  • Participated in two reflection groups

  • Participated in practice theory days

The clinical studies are assessed at mid-term and final assessment periods. Please refer to the separate assessment form.
