Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will:

  • be able to meet the patient¿s basic needs through observation, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of nursing

  • be able to apply knowledge about disease, treatment, and surroundings affect the patient¿s health condition when planning and practicing nursing

  • master current practical procedures

  • master principles of hygiene

  • be able to apply knowledge about pharmacology and handling of drugs

  • master current medical technology

  • show an understanding of the importance of relatives for patients¿ health and quality of life and be able to cooperate with patients and relatives

  • be able to take care of the patient and his/her relatives through the course of illness and at death

  • have knowledge about health legislation and practice nursing within its framework

  • be able to participate ininterdisciplinary cooperation

  • be able to apply current documentation ¿ and mapping tools in patient treatment

  • be able to identify ethical problems and express ethical considerations

  • be able to reflect upon one¿s own professional practice and progression

  • have insight into the interaction between the specialist health services and the community health services

Examination requirements

Course requirements must be passed for the course to be passed.

During the 4th semester the student must also have attended the mandatory first-aid course.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Clinical studies are assessed with pass/fail. There is 90 % compulsory attendance in the clinical studies and 90 % compulsory attendance in the simulation practice.
