The student:

Knowledge

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of various ethical dilemmas, is able to analyze ethical issues and take an independent position on ethical dilemmas in the professional practice

  • demonstrates in-depth knowledge of framework factors, organization and management in general and in the reception of the acutely critically ill patient in particular

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of how organs and organ systems work in relation to each other and how pathophysiological processes and disease start, develop and are treat

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of pathophysiology, intensive care medicine, anatomy and surgery in current topics

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of the indirect patient-directed function with regard to the organization of surgical activities, professional management, delegation of work tasks, teaching and supervision etc.

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of surgical nursing in current topics to prevent complications, reduce stress and relieve suffering, pain and discomfort, treat and rehabilitate

  • demonstrates knowledge of the proper use of advanced medical equipment in the treatment and monitoring of surgical patients

Examination requirements

Two portfolio assignment submissions by the assigned deadline (see the course booklet).

At least 80% class attendance.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam is in two parts:

  • 4 hours individual school exam at the end of the third semester (counts 60%).

  • Individual home assignment. Up to two supervisions can be given, one of which is mandatory. The assignment is delivered in the second semester (counts 40%).

Both parts must be passed. A joint grade (grades A-F) is given for the two part exams.
