Learning outcomes

Students will:

Knowledge

  • demonstrate advanced knowledge about various ethical dilemmas, be able to analyse ethical issues and take independent positions on ethical dilemmas in the profession

  • demonstrate thorough knowledge of the framework which rules the profession, organisation and management in general and the reception of acutely, critically ill patients in particular

  • demonstrate advanced knowledge about how organs and organ systems function in relation to eachother and how pathophysiological processes and medical illness conditions arise, develop and are treated

  • demonstrate advanced knowledge of pathophysiology, paediatrics, and neonatal medicine and relevant surgery

  • demonstrate advanced knowledge about current topics in paediatric nursing related to preventing complications, reducing stress, and relieving suffering, pain and discomfort, as well as treatment and rehabilitation

  • demonstrate knowledge about the rational application of advanced medical equipment used for treatment and monitoring of children

  • demonstrate advanced knowledge in paediatrics and neonatal medicine and paediatric nursing to be able to participate in, carry out and monitor advanced medical treatment, observe, assess and understand symptoms and findings in appropriate patient groups

Examination requirements

At least 80% class attendance.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

The examination consists of two parts:

  • A 4-hour individual school examination at the end of the third semester (counts 60 % of the final grade).

  • An individual project assignment. The assignment should be submitted in the second semester (counts 40 % of the final grade).

Both examinations must be passed. One final grade (A-F) is given.
