Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will:

  • be able to discuss ethical challenges, with a special focus on looking after the patient¿s autonomy, integrity, and dignity

  • be able to reflect upon the question of how the nurse secures information and gives the individual the possibility of contributing in the carrying out of the service

  • have knowledge about the ageing process of human beings, diseases and co-diseases in old age

  • have knowledge about different perspectives on mental illness and mental health work

  • be able to give an account of the characteristic features of geriatric nursing and nursing to patients with mental illnesses

  • have knowledge about palliative treatment and give an account of alleviative care at the end of life

  • be able to reflect upon medicational treatment and the handling of drugs related to specific illnesses

  • be able to reflect upon mastering strategies and improvement processes

  • have knowledge about prevention and health promotion work

  • have insight into current health legislation

Assessment methods and criteria

A graded 3-day individual at home examination.
