Course contents
The course provides an in-depth study of social and cultural diversity, food and health promotion practices in working with children. Research on diversity, social inequality, early involvement, normality and kindergarten as a cooperative body is central in this course. The course explores how knowledge and understanding are formed and broken against each other within the kindergarten field. In addition, there will be room for critical discussion about political guidelines and ongoing community debates.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students will:

have in-depth knowledge of early efforts, interdisciplinary cooperation and health promotion with children

have insight into the various social debates that highlight perspectives on multicultural society and diversity in kindergartens

have thorough knowledge of different perspectives on normality, deviation and social inequality

have thorough knowledge of the relationship between knowledge and power
-
have thorough knowledge of food and meals as a venue for health promotion and education in kindergarten
-
be able to analyze and discuss theories and perspectives on diversity and food and be able to apply these perspectives in professional practice
Examination requirements
Passed compulsory assignments and participation in compulsory seminars. Further information can be found in the semester plan.
Teaching methods
The teaching will be characterized by the variation between lectures, seminars and debates. Students will work with analysis of research articles and oral presentations during the semester. Compulsory education is stated in the semester plan.
Estimated work load is 400 working hours.
Evaluation
The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

5 day home exam.
