Course contents

The course provides a specialization on local and global development processes and environment issues with an interdiciplinary approach directed to teaching social science in primary school. Theoretical topic questions linked to planning, development, knowledge and democratic participation in the environmental and sustainability field will be presented and discussed in relations to current and relevant cases.

For primary school teacher education students:

Supervised professional training
A period of 5 days will give an introduction for school takeover in 8 semester. The students will work on academic development issues during the supervised professional training. This development work will also be integrated in teaching on campus in academic supervision, planning, cooperation and presentions. Practical work with the pupils complicity linked to sustainability, consumption and development issues.

For other students:

The students will work on academic development issues during the supervised professional training. Learning outcomes

Knowledge:

  • Development and environmental issues locally and globally

  • The process in different national and global environmental discussions

  • Norwegian and international research linked to development and community planning

Skills:

  • be able to critically analyze and reflect on different theoretical perspecties on development and environmental issues

  • be able to present and analyze current local, national and international cases which exemplifies environmental and sustainable development processes.

  • be able to contribute to innovation in the school and how to work locally and globally with planning of sustainable development processes.

General competence:

  • Be able to contribute to innovation in school and how the global society should approach sustainable development processes.

Examination requirements

For primary school teacher education students: Coursework requirements must be passed to take the exam. The supervised professional training has to be passed.

 

Other students must have:

  • Passed didactic work of similar scope as practice

  • approved / passed work requirements as described in the semester plan

  • approved compulsory lecture attendance, as described in the semester plan

Teaching methods

Lectures, seminars, reflections, presentations and excursions.

5 day supervised professional training for teacher education students. Other students will do a subject didactict work of equivalent scope which has to be passed.

Estimated workload is about 400 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written individual assigment, adjusting oral exam. Letter grades.
