Course contents

  • The course addresses key theories for regional business development and innovation, such as

  • theories about regional nutrition clusters, innovation systems and entrepreneurial ecosystems

  • localization theories for industries, including theory of the creative class

  • theories of evolutionary regional development

  • theories of regional innovation dynamics

  • approaches that look at the importance of different types of regional exclusion actors

Learning outcomes

  •  have knowledge of different theories for regional economic development and especially the importance of innovation activity for regional development

  • know factors that lead to regional development happens along best paths (path-dependent development)

  • have insight into factors that promote and inhibit long-term regional development in different types of regions

  • be able to describe and analysis business development in different regions

 

Teaching methods

 Lectures, group work and discussions/seminars, joint with course SV-413.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

 The examiniation are twofold:

  • A presentation by group counts 40%

  • Individual paper counts 60%
