Course contents

The aim of the course is part of the whole study aim of giving students theory and methods to use in a concrete planning practice. The course will end in an essay, where the student makes an analysis of a self-chosen planning theme.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • make research related to urban culture and/or development

  • contribute to define societal conditions and consequences of the case chosen from a theoretical and practical perspective

  • have knowledge about how politics, knowledge and actors influence planning practice and ways of thinking

Examination requirements

Passing conditions for doing the exam (essay) include:

  • Active participation in seminars/group work

  • Active presentation of group work, when required

  • All deliveries of comments and opponent papers are submitted

Teaching methods

The course is a combination of lectures, seminars, presentations and group work. Work load is 27 timer per ECTS point.

Evaluation

Student evaluation is carried out as a midway evaluation and in accordance with the normal arrangement as described in the quality system, chapter 4.1. unless other information is provided at the start of the semester.

Assessment methods and criteria

Essay of 3000 words for individual, 5000 words for group (for max 3 students). Graded A-F.
