Course contents

The course is an introduction to planning and plan theory, where special emphasis is placed on students to understand the difference between communicative and rational planning. An introduction to regionalization and different planning levels will be given. The course will address relevant and relevant topics in local and regional planning. Students will gain insight into municipal planning work, urban, urban and regional development strategies.

Learning outcomes

After the course the student will:

  • have broad knowledge of major theories and perspectives in social planning and be familiar with the development of knowledge within the planning field with particular emphasis on the planning of places, cities and regions

  • have broad knowledge of key issues in local and regional planning

  • able to discover, reflect on and evaluate what is the central knowledge base for specific planning processes

  • evaluate and develop alternative methods and procedures used to organize specific planning processes related to knowledge development, planning methods, participation and mobilization processes

  • carry out an independent project that highlights and analyzes the specific planning processes

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Assessment methods and criteria

3 days individual home exam. Graded A-F.
