Course contents

This course focuses on the development of an international community with an ever-closer intertwining of politics and economics at the global level. The developments within the world economy, and the political, cultural, environmental and social consequences of this will be illustrated,and developments will be discussed in the light of different theoretical perspectives. The course will have a multidisciplinary perspective in order to show the relationship between the various disciplines within social sciences and between the various didactical themes. Throughout the course appropriate academic experticse will be used when performing didactical reflections, discussions and practical exercises in order to develop an understanding of the collaborative nature and utilize the professional skills in a way that can promote childrens and youths awareness, engagement and learning.

Learning outcomes

KNOWLEDGE

After completing the course the student:

  • have knowledge of international politics and economics

  • have knowledge of key players and the balance of power within the international community

  • have knowledge of developments in the global world economy and the political, cultural, environmental and social consequences of this - also within an indigenous perspective

  • have knowledge of scientific theories and methods within the subject

  • have knowledge of relevant research and development within the field

  • have knowledge of imporant didactical methods and theories

 

SKILLS

After completing the course the student should:

  • be able to apply the academic knowledge within recent research and development trends

  • be able to work independently with academic questions and analyze questions within the theoretical foundation given in the course

  • critically analyze social science questions and this further when teaching

  • be able to use scientific means and expression in social science

  • be able to adapt instruction to the individual studentby facilitating diverse and differentiated teaching activities

  • sensitize students when choosing learning strategies

  • be able to guide pupils in various methods within social science

 

GENERAL PRACTICE

After completing the course the student:

  • be able to critically reflect on matters related to social science

  • be able to update their professional knowledge and reflect on their own practice

  • able to work independently and with others in order to identify, analyze and solve problems related to student learning and development in social sciences

Examination requirements

Assignments and practice must be passed in order to sit for exam.

Teaching methods

Teaching in this course will be characterized by a variation of lectures and seminars with elements of conversation, reflection, group exercises, presentations, excursions, etc.

 

Three weeks of teaching practice (with guidance) is part of this course.

The course is expected to have a work load of appr. 400 hours

Evaluation

Course evaluation is carried out as a midterm evaluation in accordance with standard procedure in the quality assurance system, chapter 2.1.1., unless other information is given in the beginning of the semester.

Assessment methods and criteria

Six hours written exam.
