Course contents

Students will receive an introduction to the following:

  • political institutions and parties in Norway

  • the organisational and geographical system for public administration

  • demographic changes and economic structures

  • societal organisation and the role of the media

  • international politics

  • Norway and international organisations

Learning outcomes

Upon succesful completion of the course the student should be able to:

  • Having the knowledge of the main political and administrative institutions in Norway

  • Discuss and debate various channels of influence and power in the Norwegian political and administrative system

  • Having the knowledge of local and regional authorities´ role in in the production of welfare benefits

  • Give an account of the most important reforms in the Norwegian political and administrative system over the past two decades.

  • Having the knowledge of the key institutions of the European Union and how the EU-development affects the Norwegian political and administrative system.

Examination requirements

Compulsory assignment must be passed to be able to attend the examination. Further information will be provided at the beginning of the semseter.

Teaching methods

Lectures and group seminars. The language of instruction is Norwegian. The scope of work is estimated at approx. 135 hours.

Assessment methods and criteria

3-hour written examination. Graded assessment.
