Course contents

Knowledge area examines children's linguistic, conceptual, mathematical and text cultural development. These development areas are important for children's play and learning and is essential for children to develop relationships with other people and function socially in a multilingual and multicultural society. The content in the knowledge area is about children's language and speech development, children's literature and media culture and children's mathematical meaning making, creative curiosity and problem solving. The knowledge area focuses on the kindergarten teacher's role and responsibility to give children varied experiences with customized linguistic, literary and mathematical activities. Knowledge area topics related the youngest children and transition kindergarten / school. The knowledge area combines theoretical and practical knowledge of language and mathematics development and mapping and assessment. Linguistic and mathematical practices are present in children's play and exploration. The knowledge area emphasizes that kindergarten teacher respond proactively to learning and education potential of these practices. The knowledge area is based on teacher education in mathematics, the Norwegian language and pedagogy.

GENERAL PRACTICE

Students

- To document and evaluate the institution's activities with language, text and mathematics

- Can communicate and discuss pedagogical issues with staff, parents and external partners

- Respond proactively to contemporary nursery discussions related to language, text and mathematics

- Master oral and written Norwegian (bokmål and nynorsk) and can use language qualified professional context

Examination requirements

In order to take the exam the student must have passed practice and participated in the compulsory teaching. In addition, the following requirements must be approved: one oral group presentation and a written individual work. The coursework is assessed on a pass / fail basis.

Teaching methods

Tuition includes online lectures, guided practice and study collections. Study sessions on campus can even include seminar work, practical training, work assignments, fieldwork and excursions.

The kindergarten is an important arena for learning in the workplace based kindergarten teacher. Between study sessions on campus, the students tasks to be solved at the individual workplace.

Expected scope of work equals 540 hours.

Evaluation

Evaluation is carried out as mid-term evaluation and in line with the normal arrangement in the quality assurance system Chapter 2.1.1. Any final evaluation can be implemented if required.

Assessment methods and criteria

Individual 6-hour written exam. Graded.
