Recommended prerequisites

Admitted, ompleted and passed a minimum of 30 credits within the Master of Political Science and Management. Knowledge of methods in the field of political science is recommended.

Course contents

Students will gain insight and practical knowledge through their work experience. There is an emphasis upon understanding the place of practical training holistically. Students also have the possibility to practice their professional skills in political science and management in an employment relationship.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student should be able to:

  • Relate professional questions to current situations

  • Plan and carry out varied work tasks and projects and be able to reflect on the choices made

Teaching methods

The various places of internship and the Department of Political Science and Management Sciences collaborate regarding admission to practice. The application deadline is 15 November for the spring semester and 15 May for the autumn semester. An agreement on practice between UiA, the business and the student has to be signed for each period. More information about application procedures are given during studies and through Canvas.

Contracts covering working hour, tasks and organizing them are drawn up in collaboration between students and the work experience placement. Students stay at the practice business for 270 hours and receive assignments that are relevant to their professional skills and needs. Flexibility when it comes to working hours, tasks and how to organize them. In addition students will write a professional report that is recommended to be based on work assignments or projects that they work on during the practice period.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

Practice/reflection report, approx. 3,000 words. The form and content must be in accordance with general standards for academic work. Grade: Approved /not approved.
