Prerequisites

A minimum of 60 credits within the study discipline and social science method, such as ME-100.

Course contents

The course is divided into two and begins with seminars followed by practical analysis in the field of political science . The seminar series will focus on developing a critical approach to scientific based theoretical positions and social science methods, research traditions and models.

The main part of the course will be a practical session in political science analysis in connection with the bachelor's thesis. The student will use theoretical, analytical and methodological knowledge acquired through the study to refine the topic, formulate the problem, conduct an analysis, and implement this in the bachelor's thesis.

Learning outcomes

The course aims to give students practice in working independently with central questions in political science, and write a paper that meets the requirements to scientific form, writing and reasoning.

Upon completion the students should be able to:

- Formulate a research question.

- Carry out an academic analysis of research question.

- Write a report on the work and results.

- Critically assess sources and refer sources accurately.

- Be aware of ethical questions concerning the academic work.

Examination requirements

Submitted project proposal.

Teaching methods

Lectures, group seminars and tutorials. However, the course is mainly based on the student's individual work.

Information exchange between the lecturer/supervisor, students and administration will be done through our virtual classroom Canvas. Material distributed in Canvas will supplement the lectures, seminars and tutorials.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Bachelor thesis with graded assesment, A-F.
