Prerequisites

In order to start the 3rd year students must have completed a minimum of 60 ECTS credits for the first two years of study.

Course contents

The course builds on Society, religion, philosophy and ethics (SRE-100). SRE201 The multi-religious society, together with the subject SRE201 The Local community as an arena for learning constitutes the specialization in SRLE. The two topics are linked together through three overarching themes: 1. Culture, place and learning 2. The leeway of the kindergarten 3. The kindergarten teacher as a professional. Furthermore, the specialization includes projects and tasks that involve both topics.

SRE201 The multi-religious society gives an introduction to selected world religions and all world religions¿ history and position in Norway. The focus will be directed towards religious practices that children can relate to, such as holidays and celebrations. In addition, the course includes philosophical themes and philosophy as a tool for pondering and reflection. All subjects are contextualized from governmental plans and framework.

KNOWLEDGE

The student

¿ has knowledge of Judaism, Hinduism and Sikhism, as well as world religions¿ history and position in Norway

¿ has knowledge of key festivals in selected religions, why and how they are celebrated

¿ has knowledge of social scientific perspectives on religion in Norway

¿ can describe and compare key Christian denominations

¿ has knowledge of philosophical dialogue as a method

SKILLS

The student

  • can facilitate the festive celebrations in kindergarten

  • can analyze and reflect on the national curriculum¿s description of the subject ethics, religion and philosophy

  • can evaluate how the local community can be used as a learning resource

  • Can analyze and evaluate learning resources that are relevant to the subject area Ethics, Religion and Philosophy

  • can carry out philosophical discussions with children

GENERAL PRACTICE

The student

  • can cooperate with child guardians in a multicultural context

  • can see learning opportunities in the kindergarten¿s local community

Examination requirements

Practice must be passed. In addition, other compulsory works as stated in the listing given at the start of the course, must be passed.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
