Course contents
The course provides an introduction to the knowledge and educational view as a basis for working with library and information sources in the school. The central theme is the library as a learning arena, the school library's role in students' academic and general education, development of information competence and of students' reading strategies in working with scientific texts, fiction and complex texts.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge
Upon completion of the programme, students will:

have knowledge of the role of the school library as a learning and education arena in a multicultural and technological society

have an insight into the field of information literacy - information retrieval, sourse assessment, reading different kinds of texts and use of information in forming their own knowledge

have knowledge of recent research on reading development
Skills
Upon completion of the programme, students will:

have fundamental skills in information retrieval, assessment and use of information

be able to reflect on and demonstrate how the school library can be used in the students' efforts to develop reading strategies
General skills
Upon completion of the programme, students will:

be able to pass on their knowledge about different types of texts, reading development and information literacy
Examination requirements
Two compulsory assignments. More information about the assignments will be given at the beginning of the semester.
Teaching methods
The course is organized as part-time web-based instruction. There is one voluntary assembly in Kristiansand. The majority of teaching and tutoring takes place as electronic communication in the learning platform Canvas. Students will be exposed to various forms of instruction, for example screen recording, video and written lectures. The workload is estimated to about 400 hours.
Evaluation
The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Home examination (48 hours). Graded assessment.
