Prerequisites

REL411 or REL414, REL412, REL413 and REL415 must be passed (total of 60 credits).

Course contents

The student, in consultation with the appointed supervisor, completes an individual and independent research project equivalent to 60 credits (thesis of approx. 100 pages with approx. 2900 characters including spaces per page).The thesis may be a continuation of the bachelor thesis or may be based on the collected empirical data or knowledge from previous courses in the program. Students will be part of the programme¿s academic community by actively participating in seminars and mentoring relationships.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students shall

  • have specialized knowledge within the topic of the thesis

  • be able to work independently on academic matters

  • be able to apply academically religious and/or philosophical issues, theories and methods within the topic of the thesis

  • carry out an independent research project under supervision and in accordance with ethical standards

  • be able to communicate the content and the results of the research project

  • be able to apply their knowledge and skills in new areas in the implementation of advanced tasks and projects

 

Examination requirements

Approved project proposal.
Approved attendance at four seminars where chapter drafts are discussed.
Presentation of parts of the thesis at a seminar (at least once) and prepared comments for other presentation (at least once).
Approved individual supervision.

Teaching methods

Teaching is seminar-based with ten seminars whereof four are mandatory. The student shall have supervision (about 15 hours) before the thesis is submitted for assessment. Expected workload is approx. 1600 hours.
 

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

After the thesis is graded, an adjusting oral exam is arranged. Graded assessment.
