Course contents

This course discusses actual examples of conflict and reconciliation processes both locally, on a national level and globally. Examples are conflicts of professions, between the religious practices of minorities in the encounter with greater society, conflicts between religions and world views, as well as the ethical and practical challenges of a reconciliation process following large moral violation. Theoretical approaches to the topic will be philosophical, ethical, psychological and related to religions science.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course the student will

  • have thorough knowledge about various current conflicts and reconciliation processes

  • be able to present and analyze the role of religion in such conflicts and reconciliation processes

  • be able to discuss these conflicts and reconciliation processes in a philosophical, ethical, sociological and psychological perspective

Examination requirements

The following must be completed and assessed as a pass:
Discipline students: Students must orally present a topic in a seminar presentation and comment on the note of a fellow student This must be done on the basis of a five - page memo and should be approved by the teacher within a specified date.
Students in the teacher education:
- Primary and lower secondary school: 15 days of practice

- Upper secondary school: A didactic work of similar scope
(Information will be given when the semester starts)

Teaching methods

Lectures and seminars.

15 days of practice are included for students in the primary school teacher education
Other students will be given tasks of a similar scope. More information will be given when the semester starts.
The workload is estimated to 400 hours.

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
